2017 Aspiring Leaders Day

VPA Aspiring Leaders Day 2017

Thank you to our aspiring leaders who participated in a great day of professional development!

Last Thursday the VPA held their annual Aspiring Leaders Day at Moonee Valley Racecourse, Members Lounge.  50 aspiring leaders were nominated by their Principals to attend the eagerly anticipated day of professional learning.

The morning commenced with a warm VPA welcome of fresh barista prepared coffee and an overview about how the VPA supports educational leaders presented by our President, Anne-Maree Kliman. Guest speaker Annabelle Chauncy, award winning entrepreneur and co-founder of not-for-profit organisation School for Life gave an inspiring presentation on her leadership journey. Guests from AITSL Nuella and Ben provided an excellent presentation on Preparing for the challenges of School Leadership and prior to lunch our Bastow colleague Caroline informed the aspiring leaders about how DET Supports Leadership.

The afternoon workshop involved our aspiring leaders learning from an expert and experienced Panel of Principals, Christine McKersie (Wycheproof P-12 School), Senka King (Deer Park West Primary School), Corey Pohlner (Woady Yallock Primary School), Frank Vetere (Point Cook P-9 College). This popular session enabled our aspirants to gain a deep insight into their career journeys and the current issues facing Principals today.  Valuable advice, tips and hints were shared in the open Q & A setting.

The VPA Council members then arrived in the afternoon and our aspiring leaders were able to join in on the July VPA Council Meeting where Regional Directors Judy Rose, NEVR, Carmel Flynn (on behalf of Jeanette Nagorcka), NWVR, Sharyn Donald, SWVR and Deborah Loco (on behalf of Stephen Gniel), SEVR participated in a session Getting to know your Regional Directors.

A final highlight of the day was the collegiate dinner in the Committee Room.

The VPA would like to acknowledge our Aspiring Leaders Day Supporter and valued Business Partner VTMB.
